Departure from the Congress Venue

Departure from the congress site by coach and your local English speaking guide towards Tuusula, where a large number of Finnish artists settled along the shores of the Lake Tuusula at the turn of the 19th and 20th century. The artists created a distinctive community.

We make a visit to Ainola, home of the master composer Jean Sibelius, which was named after the wife of the composer. The house was planned by the famous architect Lars Sonck and is preserved as it was during Sibelius’ time.

A delicious buffet lunch is served at a Krapihovi, wooden villa built in 1883 surrounded by a wide park.

After lunch we visit Halosenniemi, the ‘wilderness studio’ of the Finnish painter Pekka Halonen. Built on the cape of Lake Tuusula between 1899–1902, it served as an idyllic home and studio for the artist and his family for many years. The imposing yet gracefully simple timber villa and its interiors were designed and built by Halonen.
