The informal first night party will take place in the exhibition area of the congress venue Paasitorni with light refreshments and live jazzy music. Meet your old friends and make new ones. Get acquainted with international guests and colleagues from Nordic and Baltic countries.

Opening ceremony

Date: Saturday, 25 August 2012

Venue: Helsinki Congress Paasitorni

The Opening Ceremony will take place in the main hall, the Congress Hall, at Paasitorni. You are warmly welcome to listen to genuine Yoik singing and traditional Finnish music. The president of the NOK committee Tero Kivelä will open the 40th Nordic Congress of Ophthalmology. Ceremony is free for attendees and registered accompanying persons.


Cruise and dinner

Date: Saturday, 25 August 2012
Time: 18:00- – return boats between 22:00-00:30
Shuttle bus transfer to the congress hotels is arranged  from the harbor between 22-00.30.
Fee: 90 € per person
Departure: From Hakaniemi quay
Venue: Restaurant Saaristo
Dress code: Casual

The evening will begin with a cruise starting from  Hakaniemi quay near the congress venue. With light refreshments you can enjoy the view of archipelago and Helsinki from the sea. From the cruise boats you will go ashore on a little islet facing the Helsinki city center and have a delicious three-course dinner in an idyllic restaurant SaaristoThere will be live music after the dinner and you will have a great possibility to test your dancing skills. A ferry will cross the strait twice an hour till one o’clock in the night to get you back to the  mainland.

Remember to take warm clothes with you for the cruise, the wind is usually quite cold!

Concert

Date: Sunday, 26 August 2012

Venue: Temppeliaukio Church

Enjoy a great concert in beautiful surroundings! 
Rajaton (“Boundless”) is a world famous a cappella ensemble. Last year their record Tarinoita(Stories) won three CARA's (Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards) that Contemporary A Cappella Society of America annually awards to the best a cappella recordings. The concert is held in the Temppeliaukio church which is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city. 

The concert is now free for all attendees and for registered accompanying persons!
Those who already have paid the fee, will be refunded at the registering desk on spot.

Congress dinner

Date: Monday, 27 August 2012
Time: 19:30
Bus transfer at 19.00 from congress hotels to restaurant Kalastajatorppa (specified routes to be seen next to the registration desk at the venue).

Return Shuttle from the restaurant to all congress hotels between 22.30-00.30.

Fee: 90 € per person
Venue: Hilton Helsinki Kalastajatorppa
Dress code: Dark suit or business attire

The Congress dinner will take place at Kalastajatorppa Restaurant. A joyful mixture of circus artists, musicians, traditional speeches and close-up magic will be served with delicious dishes and great wines. At the end of the evening you can dance to the music of the great party band Flipper.

Closing ceremony

Date: Tuesday, 28 August 2012
Time: 13:00-13:30

Venue: Helsinki Congress Paasitorni

The closing ceremony will take place in the Congress Hall at Paasitorni.
After the festivities lunch will be served at Paasitorni Congress Restaurant.

The ceremony and lunch are free for attendees and registered accompanying persons.
